Supportive Services in Housing

Many persons moving from homelessness into housing require short-term or ongoing support in order to achieve housing stability. Homefull wants to help ensure that those moving out of the shelter system will be successful in housing, and will not need to return to the shelter in the future.

Furniture & Household Set Up Assistance
For shelter clients moving into housing, Homefull case managers can assist in obtaining furniture and household items. These items are obtained through donations, purchase, or a voucher system from area agencies or businesses.

Supportive Housing Programs
Homefull is pleased to be the service-provider for several supportive housing projects in Montgomery County. In the programs described below, Homefull provides on-site supportive services for the tenants. We do not serve as the landlord, but partner with other community organizations who fill that role.

Follow-Up Case Management
Once housed in the community, individuals may meet with follow-up case managers on a regular basis in order to have assistance in maintaining stable housing. Case managers may make home-based visits with a focus on preventing future episodes of homelessness. Case managers focus on areas such as basic living skills, parenting issues, budgeting, advocacy with other area agencies, physical health care, substance abuse, mental health counseling, transportation assistance, and general housekeeping.

Iowa Avenue
One of the first permanent supportive housing projects in Montgomery County, Iowa Avenue opened in 2002 and features 34 single-room-occupancy (SRO) units for single men in a historic building on the VA Medical Center campus. Miami Valley Housing Opportunities (MVHO) serves as the landlord, and Homefull provides on-site supportive services and case management for the tenants.

River Commons II
This 83-unit apartment building in Dayton was developed by CountyCorp and HomeStart Inc. and replaces the adjacent River Commons, an obsolete building that had been converted into permanent supportive housing in September 2007, in conjunction with the community’s 10-year plan to end homelessness.  Miami Valley Housing Opportunities manages the property and Homefull provides the on-site supportive services.

The project has been highly successful, featuring a “Jobs First” training and employment program available to all tenants.

Ohio Commons

In October of 2008, 27 single women moved from the emergency shelter system into their own apartments at this historic building on the VA Medical Center campus. The tenant selection process gave priority to female veterans and chronically homeless women. As with the Iowa Avenue project, this program is a collaboration between Homefull and Miami Valley Housing Opportunities (MVHO).

Fisher Square
Homefull partnered with CountyCorp in 2010 to offer supportive housing services and case management for five families in this program. Homefull provides home visits to the families in units that were recently renovated by the landlord, CountyCorp. Residents are eligible for Section 8 vouchers from the Dayton Metropolitan Housing Authority (DMHA). Homefull is also providing on-site programming for the parents and children.

Westcliff
In 2011 Homefull partnered with landlord Miami Valley Housing Opportunities (MVHO) to offer 11 studio apartments to single disabled adults. Homefull provides on-site supportive housing services and case management to the previously chronically homeless tenants.
